My Name is Larry Mulligan and I’m running for State Representative. I’m a lifelong Ohioan, born and raised right here in Southwest Ohio. I have been an educator for the last eight years and a husband to another wonderful teacher.
Throughout my life I felt fortunate to grow up in a family that takes their responsibility to the community seriously. While we may not agree on all things, we believe in volunteering, being responsible citizens, and stepping up when there is a need in the community. I never imagined serving the public beyond my role as an educator, but there are so many challenges we face and I knew I needed to step up and run.
WE ARE OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS KEEPERS.
It’s our responsibility to help our neighbors and empower our communities. The issues we face matter to people across the street and across the kitchen table. We constantly hear candidates talk about “others.” I will make you and your family a priority as I work for you, instead of special interests, in our capital.
THERE IS MORE THAT WE SHARE IN COMMON THAN WHAT SEPARATES US.
Your priorities are my priorities.
Our government is no longer of the people and for the people, but a government that works for the highest bidder to enrich themselves and corporate lobbyists. Most recently, we have seen it on full display with the House Bill 6 scandal. A $60 million bribery to add a $1.3 billion bailout to our electric utility bills. I call that a corruption tax that we would be forced to pay.
We have a legislature that has defied the voters’ will. Twice, voters in Ohio went to the ballot box and demanded fair legislative districts and fair elections. Yet, we see legislative maps drawn that carve up our Butler County cities like Middletown, Hamilton and Monroe so that career politicians pick their voters. That’s wrong.
THIS CAMPAIGN IS BASED ON FIGHTING THE CORRUPTION AND INACTION THAT NEITHER PARTY SHOULD STAND FOR.
“Absolute power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” This has never been more apparent in the last two years as we have faced the largest public health crisis in a century, coupled with an economic crisis and growing environmental crisis that continues to loom over us as our state leaders do nothing.
I know that many of you have felt powerless. I felt it too. You’re worried about the health of your loved ones. You tried to balance the checkbook despite rising costs and stagnant wages. You wondered if your job was on the chopping block, or talked to your spouse or loved ones about taking on a second job despite companies and corporations posting record profits. You worried about your child or students’ learning loss as they navigated remote and blended learning that has gone on far too long because of our Statehouse’s refusal to do what is right and necessary in regards to public health. To this day, you are trying to keep your family safe as small outspoken groups on the fringe work to politicize safe and effective vaccines.
WE NEED FOLKS IN COLUMBUS WHO KNOW WHAT IT’S LIKE TO HAVE THESE CONVERSATIONS AT HOME.
We need empathy and compassion in our leaders. Those who move us forward to face the challenges that lie ahead, trust the experts in fields of education, public health, and the environment. We need leaders who will work to empower our community.
Again, my name is Larry Mulligan. I’m a husband, teacher, volunteer, and I am a candidate for State Representative. I hope to have your support in the coming months, and your vote.
